]Older People, Caring

To offer additional support to the staff team in providing day care for older people who may be physically disabled, frail and/or suffering from memory loss, with the aim of giving family carers a break; planning and organising activities for the day care visitors; one to one support for older people with dementia and buddying new volunteers. This is a role for volunteers who have passed the Safe People Moving certificate.

Public transport: Our day care centre is based at Brenig Road, Penlan and is close to bus routes – numbers 25,27,28 from the Quadrant.

Is this role flexible?

Min hours expected per week: 6 hours

Min period of commitment:

Requirements: •Volunteers are welcome to use the Welsh language or other languages as appropriate. •Understanding of carers’ issues. •Any skills or talents that you could share with the visitors e.g. musical skills, playing cards, crafts etc.

Support offered:

/ Induction/ One to one supervision/ Peer support/ Social events/meetings

Volunteers will be carrying out the activities:

/ Alone/ In a group

Training provided: Manual Handling, Safe Moving training, Professional Boundaries, POVA, Lone Working, work based/on the job training

Age requirements: 18+

Selection procedures:

/ Application form/ Formal interview/ References/ Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check

Selection details: Good communication skills. Ability to plan and lead activities and offer one to one support. Caring and considerate attitude. Commitment to equal opportunities and diversity. Presentable appearance. Ability to safely support a visitor with a physical disability, for example, toileting, entering or leaving the building, sitting or standing.
