This is an exciting opportunity for somebody looking to take part in a new and unique project! The Attic Volunteer will actively work with older vulnerable people over the age of 60 to help them to organise and sort through their possessions, while providing opportunities to reminisce over the memories that these objects evoke. We are looking for volunteers to record these memories and find suitable ways of storing and showcasing these memories to ensure they are passed down to the family. The role includes: - Working with the Attic Volunteer to interview and and record memories evoked from the de-cluttering process - editing audio recording - transcribing the recorded interview and summarising the contents with focus on historical information


/ Working with children and/or vulnerable adults

Premises type: Volunteering Activity will take place in the community and at VCS Cymru office

Public transport: The volunteer will be appropriately matched with beneficiary. We will try and keep it as local as possible - travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Is this role flexible? The role is flexible

Min hours expected per week: 2 hours

Min period of commitment:

Requirements: 1) Excellent interpersonal skills - to be able to interact effectively with a wide range of interviewees 2) Clear and concise communication skills, especially good oral communication skills 3) Good listening skills 4) Organised and reliable 5) Willingness to work as part of a team 6) Have an interest with decluttering and working with older people

Support offered:

/ Induction/ One to one supervision/ Peer support/ Social events/meetings

Volunteers will be carrying out the activities:

/ Alone/ With paid staff/ With other volunteers

Volunteers will always have support from the Reminiscence Co-ordinator and other members of the the Attic Team

Training provided: Full training on Oral History recording, editing and decluttering will be provided

Age requirements: 17+

Selection procedures:

/ Application form/ Informal discussion/ References/ Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check

Selection details: The opportunity is appropriate for anybody over the age of 18. Full DBS will be completed and the Reminiscence Co-ordinator may ask for references
