As a Support Group Helper for Parkinson's UK's Neath group, you can provide a valuable contribution in a variety of ways, such as: contributing ideas for fundraising, activities and potential speakers working at a local level to promote the group and Parkinson's UK supporting other volunteers and members during busy periods What you could get out of volunteering Support Group Helpers ensure that groups run smoothly, and as part of this role you will: forge new friendships and meet new people, both in the group and in the local community gain valuable organisational, teamwork and people skills do something useful and meaningful for your community and people who are affected by Parkinson's in your area. Due to a small amount to admin that needs to be done on a weekly basis, being computer literate would be essential for this role.

Is this role flexible? Volunteer must be able to commit to 2-3 hours every week to prepare and distribute information, planning speakers, activities and and trips. With the support of the committee.

Min hours expected per week: 2 hours

Min period of commitment: 6 months

Requirements: To fulfil this role, you will: be collaborative and team focused, as you will be working as part of a team and dealing with a variety of people from different backgrounds be motivated and reliable, with strong organisational skills in order to support the group be enthusiastic and friendly, as you will be representing both the local group and Parkinson's UK

Support offered:

/ Induction/ One to one supervision/ Peer support/ Mentoring/buddying/ Social events/meetings

Volunteers will be carrying out the activities:

/ Alone/ In a group/ With other volunteers

Apart from attending the meeting for 2 hours once a month this role can be carried out at home so is very flexible.

Additional support needs: We would welcome applications from any volunteers who feel they can fulfil the role. Being mainly home based may be particularly appealing to those who may find that access to transport is difficult

Training provided: Volunteers would receive Parkinson's UK Volunteer Induction Training and training on site from current volunteers.
