South Wales Miners' Museum in the beautiful Afan Valley potrays the working life of a miner and the hardship adults and children had to endure. The museum is made up of both indoor and outdoor exhibits that include a Blacksmiths Shop, Lamp Room and an Engine House. We encourage School visits from Primary and Secondary schools and we offer a broad range of sessions to educate pupils on mining life. We would like an volunteer to assist on developing new sessions and activity sheets and if there is interest deliver them. The Role will involve: 1) Consulting with the Education Manager to understand current education. 2)Conduct research to identify new sessions and activity sheets. 3)Develop new ideas 4) Deliver seasons to small groups of pupils (if there is interest)

Premises type: Museum and with in the community


Public transport: There is a bus stop directly outside the visitor centre. If individuals require any more additional details please contact the museum.

Min hours expected per week: 4 hours

Requirements: 1) IT Skills 2)Interest in Education or museums / heritage 3)Excellent written and oral communication 4)Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to engage others 5)Able to use own initiative


Support offered:

Volunteers will be carrying out the activities:

/ Alone/ In a group/ With paid staff/ With other volunteers


Additional support needs: Help will be provided if needed.


Training provided: Training will provided within the museum, the welsh government and with the local voluntary service. Additional training may come from other providers.

Age requirements: 18+
