The South Wales Miners' Museum rests in the beautiful Afan Valley. The museum potrays the working life of a miner and hardship adults and children had to endure. The museum is made up of both indoor and outdoor exhibits that include a Blacksmiths shop, lamp room and an Engine House. We Encourage visits from Schools, community groups and families who we aim to inform and entertain. We want to increase our visitor numbers and we would like a volunteer to raise an awareness of our Museum and facilities and outreach to other groups. The role involves: 1)Consulting with colleagues to understand current visitor demographics e.g.visitor numbers, who visits regularly, length of visits. 2)Research schools, local businesses and community groups to identify new groups to engage with. 3) Ascertain what visitors want from their Museum visit and potential barriers. The role can also be offered as and Internship.

Premises type: Mostly in the museum working with the community is also expected.
Public transport: Bus stop directly outside the visitor centre. Individuals can contact the museum for further details on public transport.
Is this role flexible? It can be flexible to suit the individual needs.

Requirements: 1) Interest in museums/ heritage or outreach work is desirable 2)Excellent written and oral communication skills 3)Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to engage others 4)Able to use own initiative 5)Research skills 6) IT Skills

Volunteers will be carrying out the activities:

Volunteers will be expected to carry out duties alongside other volunteers and on their own. Training opportunities and the chance to attend courses will be available.
Additional support needs: Support will be given with literacy, IT skills and learning.
Training provided: Training will either be from within the museum, the Welsh Government, the local volunteer centre or anywhere that offers appropriate training to the role.
