]Children and Families, Community Work, Education and Literacy, Befriending, Mental Health, Prisoners and Ex-Offenders


Working directly with a small caseload of referred families, you will provide one to one therapeutic play work for children who are experiencing the imprisonment of a family member, allowing them to explore their thoughts and concerns in a safe environment and assisting them to understand and come to terms with the imprisonment. You may also be required to support the parent in supporting their own child, with advice and practical support around how to tell them, whether to visit the family member, preparing to visit a prison etc.

Min hours expected per week: 3 hours

Requirements: Background in children's play desirable but full training is given

Volunteers will be carrying out the activities:

/ Alone/ With paid staff/ With other volunteers

Play workers usually work in pairs


Additional support needs: Help with application process.


Training provided: Security, Play, Safeguarding, Induction

Age requirements: 18+

/ Informal discussion/ Formal interview/ References/ Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check

Selection details: NOMS vetting (takes approx. 6 weeks)
