What would volunteers do?

You will need to think of one or more distinctive roles that you would like volunteers to do. These need to be different from what you currently pay staff to do and attractive to do on a voluntary basis. They should help your organisation to achieve its stated goals.

Volunteering can be done on a regular, occasional or one –off basis, by individuals or by groups.  Tasks may be general, (those which anyone could do with minimal supervision) or very specialised – providing particular expertise or skills that the organisation lacks.

It is important to consult with existing staff about the possibilities for involving volunteers and to think creatively about what volunteers could do to enhance the work of your organisation.
