Volunteers make a distinctive contribution to many organisations:
they keep an organisation in touch with a wider spectrum of the community
they complement the work of staff, allowing the organisation to achieve more
they can add a ‘human touch’, spending time on vital tasks which it is difficult for paid staff to find time to do well
they give flexibility to the workforce, allowing time and energy to be channelled when and where it is needed and allowing new ideas and projects to be tested.
