The Beacon for Wales is seeking to recruit members who are familiar with the public engagement agenda in Wales. We are especially interested in people who have experience of working with young people, Communities First or rural areas, and cultural minorities.
The Management Board directs and monitors the Beacon’s activities and is the decision-making body for the Beacon for Wales. The Management Board also approves bids for funding to support innovative public engagement activities between universities and communities.
- The Beacon for Wales is an independent programme that encourages closer interaction between universities and the public. It will support Welsh universities in making wider contributions to society through engaging communities more fully in their work.
- The Beacon for Wales Management Board is made up of representatives of the five partners of the Beacon for Wales: Cardiff University, the University of Glamorgan, Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales, Techniquest and BBC Wales.
- The Beacon for Wales is funded by the Higher Education funding councils, Research Councils UK and the Wellcome Trust.
- Members of the Board will be initially appointed until the end of 2010, with the possibility of extension for a third year.
