Refresh water jugs Support staff at meal times by sitting with patients who may neeed gentle encouragement to eat and report back to staff Provide a reading/writing service where appropriate Spend time in general converation and assisting with activities Run errands to other departments within the hospital Accompany patients (not porter) to other departments Update patient notice boards and education leaflets Relaying telephone messages Directing relatives to patients/nurses Distribute comment cards and assist patients with completion and return of cards to the Patient Experience Unit Undertake ad hoc surveys Provide feedback to staff on behalf of patients and visitors The list of duties is not exhaustive and the role will no doubt expand and evolve as the service develops

It is our aim as Parc Supporting Families to improve the quality of visits for children and their families, to help maintain family ties and relationships and to make a significant contribution to the visiting environment for families at Parc Prison. We provide a freely accessible, welcoming and safe play area within the visiting hall for children aged 2-10 years. Children under 2 are also welcome, accompanied by a responsible adult.

Description of volunteering duties:

  • Being an understanding and caring person, and to have an awareness of the work environement and sensitivity to situations which may occur within the play area or visiting area.
  • Ability to work alongside the play area supervisor to provide a safe play area, and play opportunities for the children.
  • Ability to work within the play area, understanding the children's emotions and feelings whilst visiting a relative.
  • Ability to use new and existing resources to create a child centred environment.
  • Ability to take responsibility for play sessions when the supervisor is not around.
  • Ability and understanding of policies and procedures within the play area.
  • Ability to record information on a daily basis within the play area.
  • Use own initiative when circumstances arise.
  • An understanding of the need for confidentiality.
