Community Work:
Suggested tasks: • support and co-ordinate the work of the MS support team • ensure that effective communication about support work takes place with the branch committee, for instance by attending branch committee meetings, liaising with the branch chair and making reports • ensure that the MS support work undertaken meets the needs of the branch, in particular complying with the Branch Essentials • develop collaborative relationships with health and social care professionals (particularly MS specialists) and ensure that the work of the branch links with them • have a basic knowledge of statutory services and refer people on appropriately • have a basic knowledge of benefits and refer people on appropriately • receive and distribute MS Society information booklets as necessary • maintain an up-to-date list of relevant local services for people affected by MS, and distribute it to other members of the team and through the branch newsletter • ensure that the branch has a contact phone line and to be the contact person if there is no specific volunteer for this • ensure that grants are dealt with effectively, if there is no specific volunteer to do this • communicate effectively with other members of the team, and link the work of the support team with the branch

Opening Hours: Monday - Friday 9.00am - 3.00pm

The Centre serves an approximate 5 mile radius of Ystradgynlais, from Tafarn y Garreg down to Godre'r Graig, and from Cwmllynfell across to Pontneddfechan.

The aims of the Centre are:
  • To recruit, train, place and support volunteers in the local community
  • To assist clients in need of help with tasks, whether they are individuals, by referral from Social Services, the Health services, or any other providers
  • To match volunteers' skills to clients' needs where possible
  • To research the gaps in local community wants and needs, and be involved in the setting up of new initiatives to fulfil such needs which may also require volunteer input
  • To offer help and information to those volunteers who wish to pursue voluntary work outside the local area, the county of Powys, and abroad.
  • To provide facilities to individuals and groups as required eg. copying, fax, internet use and room hire, etc.
